Ref: 215 Date Posted: Monday 18 Nov 2024

Vero Recruitment is looking to source a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for our fully remote client, an impact-driven research and advisory firm who help their clients change the world through building inclusive & ethical digital economies.

Who is our client:

Incorporated in the UK, our client is a consulting firm comprised of a team of highly skilled professionals living around the globe. They draw on broad experience in the business, policy, research, technology, development, and communications domains, and are supported by an extensive network of specialists and partner organisations.

Trusted by leading foundations, commercial partners, and agencies for their deep subject matter expertise in digital transformation and digital development, they support client investments and programs to create more inclusive and environmentally sustainable economies and societies.

Their funding comes from a mix of multi-year, multimillion dollar grants and shorter term deliverable-based contracts.

Their clients are private foundations and philanthropies, such as Mastercard Foundation, the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, Bosch Foundation and the Center for Inclusive Growth, as well as international development agencies, such as FCDO, GIZ, SIDA, and DFIs (Development Finance Institutions).

The opportunity:

To join a truly progressive, impact driven consultancy business on a fully remote basis, to help transform the finance function.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced, hands-on finance leader to take on an executive leadership role. The role requires both strategic thinking and willingness to execute and get things done.

The role:

The CFO role is critical to the overall success of the business, providing financial stewardship and functional leadership to the organisation. The CFO will report to the CEO, be on the company’s Board, and be a key member of the ELT.

The CFO will have a small team made up of an experienced Management Accountant, a Finance Transformation Manager, a senior Operations Director and outsourced bookkeepers.

As the head of a small team in a medium-sized, startup like organisation, you will have to wear many hats; you’ll need to be as comfortable rolling up your sleeves to get things done, as you are presenting strategy to the Board and company as a whole.

While they’re a fully remote team, this role requires close collaboration with an Executive Leadership Team (ELT) based on GMT +/- 3 hours. Therefore, candidates must be within this time zone. Periodic travel is required.

Who are we looking for:

Professionally qualified accountant essential

Could suit an experienced accountant looking for their first CFO role

Financial leader with a strong track record in delivering and improving financial stewardship, budgeting and forecasting, at significant scale and complexity

Ability to thrive in a fast paced, growth-oriented startup environment

Experience developing and introducing new financial processes from scratch

Experience selecting appropriate financial tools and platforms to meet current and projected future needs at the organisation level

Experience implementing modern finance back-office systems and workflows

Experience working in a consulting firm or similar project-based revenue model

Experience in a global company, handling international finance matters such as clearing funds into higher risk emerging markets and opening overseas entities

Experience with large donor fund management or investment fund management or exposure to grant or investment fund management preferred

What is on offer:

As a forward-thinking global business, employees are based all over the world on a fully-remote basis.

A competitive salary is on offer for the successful candidate.

Team members work 40 hours per week, and this is very flexible around core hours to facilitate meetings and collaboration.

In addition, 33 days annual leave can be taken throughout the year.

Due to the scope and nature of this role, it’s essential that you’re willing and able to travel.

As you can see, this is a unique opportunity for an experienced finance professional.
