Finance Manager - Aberdeen

Vero has been engaged exclusively by an international energy services company to recruit a high calibre, professionally qualified accountant into the newly created position of Finance Manager. The Finance Manager will provide a full finance business partnering service to one of our clients key growth service lines.

 

Despite the challenges of changing customer demand following the oil price slump and the Covid-19 restrictions, our client has remained resilient with all off their operating locations remaining open. They have maintained solid financial liquidity throughout and have also secured a refinance of its banking facilities, allowing them to focus on exciting future growth plans.

Job purpose:

 

Working as part of a newly formed UK Finance Senior Team, and reporting to the UK Finance Manager, the role will be responsible for the accounting and financial reporting functions, risk management, and commercial reviews of a major business stream.

 

Working with a range of key stakeholders, the role incumbent will provide a full business partnering service, with the opportunity to drive performance improvements, systems and processes, as well as developing a range of KPI’s.

 

Main areas of focus:

 

  • Providing accurate, timely, relevant information and analysis to the UK Finance Manager and Management Team
  • Manage the relevant Finance team on a day to day basis (one direct report)
  • Identify areas for improvements within operations and support functions and manage projects to deliver agreed objectives
  • Ensure processes are efficient and fit for purpose. Seek opportunities for efficiency and implement process change
  • Develop financial reporting and forecasting within the relevant business through improved use of systems and reporting tools
  • Develop robust cost/tender models for contracts, linking closely with the Commercial/ Tendering teams in the UK
  • Be a pro-active leader with a continuous cost focus within the business stream

 

Key responsibilities

 

  • Responsible for timely, accurate and reliable financial reporting and management information
  • Expected to understand and challenge the business, ensuring future business changes are planned for
  • Develop, deploy and monitor appropriate benchmarking KPIs to monitor performance of sites and service lines
  • Responsible for ensuring budgets and forecasts are properly prepared, understood and submitted in accordance with UK and Group deadlines
  • Responsible for the overall planning, development and management of activities of the Accountant
  • Nurture and develop business partnering relationships with the operational business
  • Driving internal control initiatives through the business areas and ensuring that financial processes and systems comply with relevant policies and requirements
  • Responsible for the Balance Sheets of the business area and ensuring staff prepare proper and timely reconciliations. Support Group Finance in the preparation of year end and statutory return information

 

Who are we looking for:

 

  • Qualified accountant (ICAS preferred) with a minimum of two years’ post qualifying experience in industry
  • Proven track record of progression and willingness and ability to progress further
  • Solutions based with strong planning, organising and numerical skills, and an excellent attention to detail
  • Must have a strong personality willing to drive change and challenge the status quo
  • Computer literate with well developed IT skills across the Microsoft suite, particularly Excel
  • Accustomed to working effectively in a fast paced environment, flexible and can adapt to changing workloads and priorities, where high standards are not compromised under pressure
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and in writing
