Financial Controller (Remote) - Aberdeen

Ref: 256 Date Posted: Saturday 14 Feb 2026

Vero Recruitment has been exclusively appointed to recruit a Financial Controller for the International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP), a globally respected road safety charity working to save lives around the world. This is a fully remote role.

Who is our client:

The International Road Assessment Programme (iRAP) is a UK-registered global charity with a clear and powerful vision: a world free of high-risk roads.

Working in partnership with governments, development banks, mobility clubs, research institutes and road safety NGOs across more than 140 countries, iRAP provides the tools, evidence and training needed to make roads safer for all users. Its work directly supports the United Nations’ global road safety targets and is helping to prevent hundreds of thousands of deaths and serious injuries every year.

Alongside the charity, iRAP operates a UK-registered trading subsidiary, Road Assessment Services Ltd, and works closely with aligned not-for-profit organisations including the Road Safety Foundation (UK) and the European Institute of Road Assessment (Slovenia). Core programme funding is provided by the FIA Foundation, ensuring iRAP’s methodology and tools remain freely available worldwide.

Despite its global reach, iRAP retains a close-knit, values-led culture, with a team of around 30 staff and 20 contractors. This is a purpose-driven organisation that combines evidence-based thinking with a strong sense of shared responsibility and genuine care for its people.

The role:

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller will take responsibility for overseeing all financial and accounting activities across the iRAP group, ensuring robust financial reporting, effective controls and strong financial planning.

This is a hands-on leadership role, managing a small finance team and working closely with the CFO and Executive Committee. The Financial Controller will play a key role in supporting strategic decision-making by providing clear, timely and insightful financial information to senior stakeholders, donors and partners worldwide.

The role also involves regular interaction with major donors, development banks, government bodies and civil society partners, requiring a confident communicator who can operate credibly in an international, mission-led environment.

The position is fully remote, but with the finance team currently based locally across Aberdeen.

Key responsibilities include:

• Leading the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements in line with relevant accounting standards
• Overseeing budgeting, forecasting and financial planning processes
• Ensuring compliance with tax, audit and financial regulations
• Managing cash flow, working capital and financial risk
• Overseeing procurement processes, with particular focus on contracts and grant agreements
• Developing and maintaining strong internal controls to safeguard organisational assets
• Coordinating with external auditors, tax advisors and regulatory authorities
• Providing financial analysis and insight to support strategic and operational decisions
• Leading, mentoring and developing the finance team, promoting high standards and continuous improvement
• Maintaining financial systems and driving process improvements to enhance efficiency and accuracy

Who we’re looking for:

You will be a professionally qualified accountant with proven experience in a financial leadership role. Applicants in practice looking to move into industry are encouraged to apply, as are industry trained accountants seeking meaning and purpose from a role.

You will be highly analytical, exceptionally accurate and comfortable working across multiple entities, time zones and cultures.

Above all, you will be proactive, solutions-focused and aligned with iRAP’s core values, motivated by the opportunity to apply your financial expertise to work that delivers real, global impact.

What’s on offer:

This is a rare opportunity to take on a finance leadership role within a globally influential, mission-driven organisation. You will work with passionate, values-led colleagues, contribute directly to life-saving outcomes, and play a central role in strengthening the financial foundations of a charity making a measurable difference worldwide.
