The role:
Reporting to the Managing Director, the Financial Controller will take full responsibility for the financial management of the organisation, ensuring the business continues to operate from a position of strength.
This is a hands-on, highly visible role, leading a small team and working closely with senior leaders to drive both operational and commercial performance. The Financial Controller will develop a deep understanding of the business by engaging directly with projects, attending site visits, and supporting tendering processes.
Key responsibilities include:
• Day-to-day management of the small accounts department, ensuring all work is completed accurately, efficiently and safely
• Preparation and presentation of annual budget projections
• Preparation and presentation of monthly financial reports across all departments, including income, expenditure and vessel-level performance analysis
• Assisting with client presentations, tenders and bid preparation
• Maintaining guidelines and reporting systems
• Supporting the preparation of financial information for external finance applications
• Managing other duties as reasonably required to support the leadership team
Who we’re looking for:
You will be degree-educated with at least five years’ experience in a small business environment, ideally in a role that has required both operational involvement and strategic oversight.
You will be highly numerate, detail-oriented and able to communicate complex financial information clearly to both finance and non-finance stakeholders. Strong communication skills are essential, as the position requires regular interaction with internal teams, external partners and financial institutions.
Experience working in a multi-currency environment and confidence in managing cash flow would be advantageous.
