Financial Controller - Aberdeen

Vero has been exclusively appointed by a major international oil service company to recruit an experienced accountant into the role of Financial Controller. Our client was created by the merger of several market leading companies a number of years ago, and they now serve their clients across the worlds major oil and gas hubs.

 

Reporting to the UK Region Financial Controller, with a functional reporting line to the Product Line Controller, the Financial Controller will be responsible for providing accurate and timely financial and management information for monthly consolidation for internal management, for external professional advisors and for government bodies.

 

Fundamental to the role is supporting the operational lead and ensuring the integrity at all times of the information produced by applying corporate and regulatory policies and procedures for all business and finance processes.

 

Key responsibilities:

 

Weekly

 

  • Submit product line backlog report
  • Submit product line flash update on current month outlook when requested by product line controller
  • Review and approval of supplier payments
  • Review and manage UK Cashbooks to ensure daily reconciliations– as back up support to the UK Region Controller

 

Monthly

 

  • Collate and submit payroll updates re overtime, allowance for product line for payroll submission
  • Collate and update monthly backlog revenue
  • Collate and submit product line revenue flash
  • Carry out the monthly close of the general ledger, monthly journal entries and trial balance
  • Carry out monthly balance sheet reconciliations and completion of monthly checklist thus ensuring compliance with Sarbanes Oxley reporting requirements
  • Update asset keeper with deprecation movement, any acquisitions, transfers and disposals of assets
  • Prepare monthly management account packs for submission to the business leads and answering any queries
  • Prepare monthly product line P&L, balance sheet & cashflow forecasts
  • Variance analysis of actual results to previously submitted forecast
  • Variance analysis of previously submitted forecast to current version of forecast
  • Review of payroll and employee benefits – as back up support to the UK Region Controller

 

Annually

 

  • Complete annual budgets and discussion with product line business leads and Operational Vice Presidents
  • Provide information and respond to queries from the external auditors on a timely basis to ensure reporting within group deadlines
  • Provide information to internal auditors for compliance with Sarbanes Oxley requirements
  • Provide information and respond to queries from the tax advisors
  • Provide disclosure information for inclusion in both the UK GAAP and US GAAP statutory accounts
  • Assist the UK Regional Financial Controller with the preparation of the UK legal entity statutory accounts
  • Provide insurance renewal information for the UK insurance policies

 

General

 

  • Provide support to product line business leads
  • Carry out product line contract reviews
  • Provide support and helping develop junior team members i.e. assistant accountant
  • Take current practice, reviewing and refining to determine if current practice is best practice
  • Set goals and deliverables to turn current practice into best practice
  • Provide back up support to UK Regional Financial Controller
  • Provide support to any product line and finance projects/initiatives

 

Accountabilities

 

  • Accounting in line with Group requirements and UK/US GAAP
  • Manage systems and controls aligned with policies

 

Management

 

  • Direct supervision of an Assistant Accountant

 

Person specification

 

  • Fully qualified (CA, ACCA or CIMA) or working towards this (preferred)
  • Working knowledge of UK/US GAAP
  • Previous experience gained within the oil and gas industry is essential
  • Previous experience in FRS102 Statutory Accounts (preferred)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Team player

 

Position suits an experienced accountant who is accustomed to managing a fast paced, challenging role within an international energy business. The successful individual will provide key finance support to operational leads so first class communication and interpersonal skills are essential. Previous experience in a simar role is also essential.

 

Salary target: £51,000 plus benefits.
