Head of Finance & Sustainability - Aberdeen

Ref: 86 Date Posted: Wednesday 02 Feb 2022

Vero has been engaged exclusively by Scotland’s leading performing arts organisation, Aberdeen Performing Arts, to recruit a high calibre finance professional into the role of Head of Finance & Sustainability.

Aberdeen Performing Arts is a creative hub and focal point for the performing arts, community engagement and talent development in the North-east. Their three iconic city centre venues (His Majesty’s Theatre, The Music Hall, and The Lemon Tree) are all on a national and international touring circuit for the performing arts and a vital part of Aberdeen and Scotland’s cultural infrastructure.

The Opportunity:

To take on the prestigious role of Head of Finance and Sustainability for Scotland’s leading performing arts organisation.

The Role:

The Head of Finance and Sustainability is a key senior management post, reporting to the Chief Executive. You will work with the Leadership Team, bringing vision, creativity and expertise to provide leadership for all financial management, reporting and administration, for accounting practices and business planning, for performance management and review, and for embedding climate action and environmental sustainability within the business model. Consideration might be given to applicants who are looking to work reduced hours, such as a four day week.

You’ll help Aberdeen Performing Arts to create and shape the next iteration of their business plan “Imagining New Futures”.

This isn’t a standard finance role - the management of their finances is of course hugely important, and you will absolutely lead on this. You will also, however, play a pivotal role in helping our client to achieve their ambitions within a sustainable business strategy. You’ll be responsible for driving, tracking, reviewing and reporting on performance (financial and non-financial) across the organisation, as well as ensuring compliance with all statutory, legal and regulatory obligations.

The Head of Finance and Sustainability is a member of the Leadership Team, responsible for assisting the Chief Executive in leading the company through all aspects of strategic business planning, financial management and accounting, performance review and embedding climate action in their business model. Responsible for ensuring a high-performance team, a target-oriented workplace and a sustainable business.

Who are we looking for:

Our client is looking for someone who can contribute to the diverse Leadership Team and help to set and drive delivery of their next business plan for 2022 and beyond. To do this, you’ll be commercially minded, strategic, great with data, whilst being hands on and have first class leadership skills. You’ll likely have a passion for the environment, being energised by the opportunity to lead the environmental sustainability strategy and action plans. The role requires an experienced financial leader with a track record of success in a finance role at management level.

You’ll have the vision, commitment and outlook to lead in a highly regarded, significant and complex arts organisation. You’ll be an excellent communicator, with the ability to operate at multiple levels internally and externally, building positive relationships. You will be able to initiate and lead change and be an effective multi-tasker and problem solver.

We know this role is a bit different, and so you might not have experience in every area of this role – that’s ok. What you will have is a passion for what Aberdeen Performing Arts do, and the determination to succeed. Our client is an ambitious organisation, so you’ll need to be up for stretching outside your comfort zone and getting involved in understanding and supporting all areas of their business.

Salary:

This is a full-time role with a salary up to £45,000 per annum plus excellent benefits which includes a generous holiday entitlement, as well as numerous discounts and tickets to shows and events.
