Senior Project Accountant - Aberdeen

The Opportunity:

 

To join a global market leading organisation in a highly operational, business facing finance role at a critical time following significant private equity investment.

 

Role Overview:

 

The Senior Project Accountant will report into the Group Finance Manager and will act as the key finance business partner to a range of stakeholders including Project Managers, Project Teams, Commercial, Statutory Auditors and various external advisors.

 

Areas of responsibility:

 

  • Works as a business partner to the Project Manager in understanding the contractual obligations in terms of production milestones and revenue recognition in accordance with IFRS 15
  • Responsible for the financial control, accounting and reporting of projects
  • Continually review and challenge project costs, ensuring cost control compliance and project risk management, identifying and reporting potential budget risks at the earliest opportunity
  • Support Commercial Team with the provision of financial data and assistance for tenders
  • Provide financial support and advice to Project Managers
  • Take ownership for inclusion of costs or taxes where changes in law have taken place

 

Main tasks:

 

  • Prepare Project Status Reports for projects, providing support to Project Managers at the monthly review meetings with directors
  • Prepare all sales invoices for the group, in accordance with the contract terms and taking account of local non-corporate taxes
  • Prepare weekly receivables report along with details of any disputes or queries
  • Prepare monthly gross margin report to include actuals and forecasts
  • Prepare accurate and timely monthly project revenue and cost accruals in accordance with the period-end timetable Maintain all balance sheet reconciliations and entries related to the projects
  • Provide monthly cash flow forecasts, supported as required with variance analysis
  • Support Project Managers in the production of Variation Orders
  • Prepare monthly man-hour report in agreed format and issue to Project Managers
  • Provide all project related information to statutory auditors as requested
  • Provide input on project related financials for the inclusion in local tax filings
  • Other ad-hoc activities as required

 

Who are we looking for:

 

  • Qualified accountant preferred, although strong consideration given to part or qualified by experience applicants with relevant skills
  • Extensive experience in an operational finance position
  • Proven track record of identifying and implementing improvements, particularly in strengthening financial controls and reducing business risk
  • Self-motivated, able to work alone and as part of a team
  • Flexible and able to meet tight deadlines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Willing and demonstrable ability to take ownership and responsibility
