Senior Accountant - Aberdeen

Vero has been engaged exclusively by an international energy services company to recruit an experienced accountant into the role of Senior Accountant. The primary areas of responsibility for the role focus on the accounting for the two of our clients major business service lines. The successful candidate will be heavily involved in the preparation of the two month-end cycles as well as the forecasts and budgets whilst providing support and insight to two direct reports - an Accountant and a Trainee.

 

The Senior Accountant will also hold responsibility for the accounting and reporting for two smaller business service lines. This represents a fantastic opportunity for an experienced accountant to take ownership of a highly visible role, providing first class job satisfaction. 

 

Despite the challenges of changing customer demand following the oil price slump and the Covid-19 restrictions, our client has remained resilient with all off their operating locations remaining open. They have maintained solid financial liquidity throughout and have also secured a refinance of its banking facilities, allowing them to focus on exciting future growth plans.

 

Job Purpose

  • Principal Accountant for specific operational areas
  • Responsible for preparation of accurate and timely management accounts and reports
  • Line management responsibility for an Accountant and a Trainee
  • Develop an effective team to ensure reporting, forecasting and invoicing objectives are met
  • Be an effective coach and mentor to others in finance team
  • Provide day to day financial support to the business area
  • Implementation and adherence to financial controls and processes

 

Key responsibilities:

 

  • Preparation and reporting of management accounts
  • Preparation of budgets and forecasts for the business area
  • Preparation of financial analysis compared to budget/forecast
  • Preparation of customer profitability analysis
  • Introduce and amend processes to improve system benefits, reporting, working capital management and deliver financial KPI targets
  • Question and challenge current processes and assumptions within the business area
  • Provide financial information to operational areas and increase financial understanding of operational managers
  • Work with operational teams to deliver business and financial improvements
  • Responsible for performance of direct line reports
  • Prepare accurate and relevant balance sheet account reconciliations in a timely manner
  • Understanding of customer contracts and operational/financial drivers
  • Liaise with Commercial team to support tenders/pricing activities
  • Delivery of audit schedules and liaison with auditor

  • Professionally qualified, or qualified by experience
  • Previous experience gained within a similar role
  • A professional and commercial outlook
  • Focus on detail, accuracy and consistency
  • Ability to deliver accurate and timely financial information
  • Ability to meet deadlines and take projects to completion
  • Awareness and appreciation of cashflow and the implications of actions on cash
  • Previous line management responsibility, with the desire to see team members and team performance improve and develop
  • Computer literate with well-developed IT skills across the Microsoft suite, specifically in Excel
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and in writing
