Tax Manager - Aberdeen

Vero has been engaged by a global oil service company to recruit a Tax Manager to be based at their headquarters in Aberdeen. Our client has a clear vision to be recognised as the global market leader in their field and they have a rich heritage spanning over a hundred years.

Reporting to the Head of Tax and working closely with the Senior Tax Managers, the Tax Manager is responsible for the tax advice and planning as well as compliance support and review for the UK and overseas operations of the Group across multiple jurisdictions and is responsible for providing advice and support on specific areas of tax, such as treasury. 

You might be a qualified tax professional currently working in practice and seeking your first move into a challenging and stimulating industry role. You may already be working in a similar role in industry and are seeking a new challenge to develop your experience and skills.

The Role

  • Day to day responsibility for managing tax issues relating to the UK and overseas entities to include corporate tax, WHT and deemed profits tax
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with local finance managers
  • Research tax technical points and evaluate the impact of conclusions on the Group or entities
  • Support the Senior Tax Managers and Head of Tax on M&A, transfer pricing and other projects
  • Assist in managing tax audits, providing guidance to local teams and ensuring accurate and appropriate disclosure is made to the tax authorities
  • Manage, maintain and report tax risks for allocated entities
  • Review the impact of new tax legislation on existing group companies and report those changes
  • Review tax returns for allocated entities to ensure technical accuracy and consistency with Group policy 
  • Ensure that tax returns and appropriate transfer pricing documents are filed on time
  • Review annual tax packs and ensure these are accurate and reflected in the local / Group accounts
  • Review tax payments
  • Provide commercially focused tax advice to finance and commercial managers on bids, new business opportunities and other projects
  • Ensure that relevant intercompany agreements are in place to support transactions
  • Support other team members in areas such as year-end accounting, VAT

Person Specification

  • Professionally qualified essential (ICAS/CTA)
  • Accountancy practice experience desirable 
  • Experience of UK tax essential
  • International tax experience beneficial
  • Awareness of VAT beneficial
  • Strong communicator able to work with people across all levels
  • Willing to challenge in a robust and professional manner
